About the Healthcare Tech Startup

Industry: Healthcare Tech
Founded: 2011
Location: Maryland, United States
Size: 501-1,000 employees

The client is a healthcare tech startup building a patient support platform. Their technology helps patients start and stay on specialty therapies, improving treatment adherence for biotech and pharma products.

The Challenge

To support platform development, the client needed to hire skilled full-stack developers with senior-level expertise in the MEAN or MEVN stack (MongoDB, Express, Vue.js / Angular, and Node.js). They also looked for experience in AWS, Redis, and Ubuntu, as well as an understanding of development for a healthcare environment.

Beyond technical skills, the client required:

▪ A minimum of 4 years of active commercial experience
▪ A degree in computer science or related fields
▪ Excellent English communication skills
▪ Independent work habits, proactive communication, and a cultural fit with their existing team

In addition, the client had a mandatory background check that extended hiring timelines. These strict requirements made it difficult for a startup to hire the right talent in time through internal channels.

Under such constraints, the client’s CTO turned to DOIT Software to extend their search with a global pool of pre-vetted remote senior engineers. He had previously worked with us on multiple projects and had already seen DOIT’s ability to vet developers.

The client’s CTO was confident the DOIT team could meet their hiring needs again without delay.

“I started working with DOIT Software many years ago at a different company. Since then, I’ve partnered with them over multiple projects at three companies. Some were project-based. Others involved DOIT Software, providing great developers that join our team.”

The Solution

After reviewing the client’s requirements, DOIT Software built a multi-step hiring pipeline to match their high technical and communication standards. The DOIT team handled the first three stages:

  • Initial interview with a DOIT recruiter, focused on team and tech stack fit, as well as English proficiency.
  • 5-hour technical task to test coding skills in the MEAN/MEVN stack, AWS, Redis, and Ubuntu.
  • Deep technical interview conducted by DOIT’s senior developers. They reviewed the candidate’s test results and discussed their suggested solution to verify skills in real-time.

Candidates who passed these stages proceeded to the client’s side interviews with management and engineering teams. Also, they had a background check that lasted up to a month, which made the hiring process more complicated. Still, DOIT ensured candidates remained engaged and available throughout the waiting period.

The client appreciated how DOIT adapted to their workflow and handled every step of the process with minimal friction. This approach allowed them to move forward without overloading their internal HR team.

“DOIT Software has really taken to heart that they’re a part of our team. They understand our deadlines, adjust to our workflow, and respond after hours if needed. It’s been a pleasure to work with DOIT Software as an organization.”

The Results

01

First developers staffed: within 1 month

02

Team size: 11 software engineers added

03

Average developer tenure: 2.5 years

As a result, DOIT Software started by augmenting client’s team with a Backend Team Lead and a Senior Full Stack developer, and has gradually grown the team to 11 full-time specialists:

▪ Senior Backend developers;
▪ Senior Full Stack developers;
▪ Senior Automation QA (Python+JS).

After 3.5 years of collaboration, the client team was so pleased with the contribution of the first two developers that they bought them out to join their in-house team directly. Over time, a total of six engineers went through the buyout process based on strong individual performance and team fit.

Throughout the cooperation, DOIT Software provided ongoing HR support and monthly feedback cycles to proactively manage satisfaction and minimize turnover risks. Therefore, the average developer tenure on the project is 2.5 years, and 4 engineers are still working after more than 5 years of engagement.

With the team staffed through DOIT Software, the client successfully transitioned their platform from a monolithic architecture to a scalable microservices structure. The engineers contributed to both core development and advanced optimizations.

Shortly after this transformation, the company was acquired by a leading technology-enabled hub services platform, driven by the product’s maturity and the strength of the engineering team behind it.
